SEA Congratulates 2016 Sammie Winners and Finalists
The winners and finalists for the Partnership for Public Service’s 2016 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America medals (also known as the Sammies) were honored at a black-tie event on September 20, and two of those honored were members.
SEA is especially proud of these two members: as a 2016 finalist in Citizen Services, Mariela Melero, Associate Director, Customer Service and Public Engagement Directorate, U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security; and as the 2016 winner in Management Excellence, William Gregory Burel, Director, Division of Strategic National Stockpile Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services.
Ms. Melero was honored for making “immigration resources more accessible and user-friendly, including a cutting-edge online tool that can answer 90 percent of questions posed by those seeking U.S. citizenship or residency.” Her full write-up for the award can be found here.
Mr. Burel was honored for expertly managing “the $7 billion national stockpile of emergency medicines and medical supplies,” and he “has spearheaded 10 major and 30 other responses, from an influenza pandemic to the Ebola crisis.” His full write-up for the award can be found here.
