William J. Valdez (Energy)
William J. Valdez currently serves as Principal Deputy Director, Office of Economic Impact & Diversity at the Department of Energy. Previously, Valdez served as Director, Planning and Analysis, Office of Science, and Acting Director, Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists, Department of Energy; Senior Analyst, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy; and Senior Economist, Department of Energy. Prior to joining the Federal government, he was a business consultant specializing in developing technology joint ventures, assessing political/economic risk, and creating corporate technology strategies. He also has significant experience in public affairs, publishing, editing and journalism.
Valdez began his first term as a member of the Board of Directors in November of 2005. He has been a member of SEA since 1999. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, Valdez has also served on more than 30 SES panels, numerous QRB panels, and the DOE Executive Resources Board. His service at DOE has earned him the Department of Energy Gold Medal Award for Outstanding Service, and an OPM Director's Award for his contributions to OPM's 9-Point Plan for Hispanics.
He received a B.A. with honors in Journalism from the University of Texas, and a M.A. with highest honors in International Affairs and Economics from the John Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies.
