April 2019 ACTION Column

Some updates on initiatives that SEA is sponsoring in 2019:

  • The Fiscal Accountability Community of Change is working in partnership with the Association for Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM) to host two seminars that will explore how ERM can lead to improved decision making, enhanced mission success, and resiliency. The first seminar will be in June and the second in September and will be open only to SEA members.

AFERM previously developed an Enterprise Risk Management Playbook and this collaborative effort with SEA is intended to educate career leaders about the benefits of using ERM as a program management tool.  ERM needs to be viewed as an integral part of program management and this seminar series will help set the stage for that broader understanding to take hold in the Federal government.

  • SEA is collaborating with AI Trends (www.AITrends.com), the premier source of news and information on artificial intelligence, to bring career leadership perspectives to the AI World Government Conference & Expo (www.AIWorldGov.com), June 24-26 in Washington, DC.   SEA will host a panel discussion and SEA members will be given discounted passes to the Conference.

The SEA panel, “AI and the Future of Ensuring Public Service Success,” will explore how Federal career leaders can use artificial intelligence to improve mission delivery.  Artificial intelligence will have an enormous impact on the Federal workforce and workplace and SEA is working with thought leaders inside and out of government to understand how to navigate those changes.

  • SEA will host a panel, “Leading in a Disruptive Era: Leadership Competencies a 21st Century Public Service Leader Requires,” at the Association for Talent Development’s 2019 International Conference & Exposition, May 19-22 in Washington, DC. SEA & ATD are also in discussions about a larger collaboration that would bring ATD’s considerable resources in talent development to SEA’s members.

This is the first visible sign of a major upgrade in SEA’s business operations and IT systems.   In January SEA hired MCI, an association management company, to take over our back office functions and upgrade our website and membership database.   This transition is nearly complete and you will begin to see the benefits of this change in the coming months.
