SEA Starts Dialogue, Provides Guidance to Aspiring Senior Leaders
On May 22nd, SEA held the first of its Quarterly Leadership Dialogues for aspiring senior leaders. As part of a new initiative to provide career development assistance to Participant Members and others in the leadership pipeline, SEA has partnered with Young Government Leaders (YGL) and Treasury Executive Institute (TEI) to hold a series of informal discussions each quarter.
These leadership dialogues are open to all SEA Participant members, as well as YGL and TEI members. Discussions will center on paths to the SES, advice on ECQs and the QRB process, leadership skills for the SES, and strategic networking/flash mentoring.
The first dialogue – Journeys to the SES – drew a crowd of GS-12s through GS-15s from across government. The discussion touched on topics such as how to get into the SES, other options including SL/ST, and ways to progress in careers (including continuous learning and seeking out details or other opportunities to grow). It was a good overview to the various paths to the SES and a strong start to this new speaker series.
A big thank you to SEA’s Board members – Karen Durham-Aguilera and Laura Kay Furgione – for serving as panelists and sharing their own journeys and the nuggets of wisdom they acquired along the way.
SEA will hold the next Leadership Dialogue in August, focusing on Understanding ECQs and the QRB process. More information will be shared in the coming months.
