Member Categories for SEA

SEA has a variety of membership and engagement categories for career leaders across government. Although SEA is a professional Association for career SES members and equivalents, SEA believes the leadership profession includes leaders at all levels. Scroll down to identify which category and level of engagement is right for you.

Active Members

This category is open to career SES, Senior Level (SL), Scientific Professional (ST), equivalent senior level positions, and some GS-14 and GS-15 employees (see additional requirements below). Active members receive access to the full suite of SEA services and are eligible for leadership roles within the organization.

At the GS-14 and GS-15 (and equivalent) levels, individuals must meet one or more of the following criteria: 

  • Equivalent executive responsibilities
  • Positions subject to centralized control of their agency's Executive Resources Board
  • Completed an agency executive development program/course, or similar program such as Excellence in Government (EIG)
  • Attended the Federal Executive Institute

Retired Members

This category is open to individuals who held career SES, Senior Level (SL), Scientific Professional (ST), equivalent senior level positions in the government that have either retired from service or left the government for a different position.

 

Retired members receive all of the same services as Active members, with special emphasis on networking, retirement and financial planning services, and transition planning.

Participation Categories

As part of SEA’s mission to build the pipeline of aspiring SES and to connect leaders across government, SEA provides membership and engagement opportunities for GS-12 through GS-15 employees who are not yet eligible for full SEA membership. Scroll down for a list of participation categories, membership services available at each level, and nomination procedures.

Associates

This category is for GS-14/15’s who are not eligible for full membership in SEA, yet still interested in being part of a leadership profession and engaging on SEA’s mission. Members in this category must be nominated by a current SEA member. 

Associates may:

  • Take part in SEA’s leadership and mentoring program,
  • Receive ACTION,
  • Participate in Communities of Change and Chapters,
  • Receive a discounted rate for participation in SEA’s annual conference,
  • Receive all SEA sponsor discounts, and
  • Participate in SEA webinars, seminars, and other events

Associate dues: $149/year

Rising Leaders

This program is for GS-12 through GS-13 employees that are identified as rising stars within the Federal government (e.g. have participated in various programs: PMF, Pathways, agency-specific leadership programs, SEA/YGL Mentor/Protégé Program, etc.). Members in this category must be nominated by a current SEA member. 

Rising Leaders may:

  • Receive ACTION,
  • Participate in Communities of Change and Chapters,
  • Be eligible for participation in SEA’s leadership and mentoring programs,
  • Receive a discounted rate for the annual conference,
  • Receive all SEA sponsor discounts, and
  • Participate in SEA webinars, seminars, and other events

Rising Leaders dues: $99/year

Affiliates

This broad category is open to any GS-12 to GS-15 employee interested in engaging with SEA and its mission. There is no nomination necessary for participation in this category. 

Affiliates may:

  • Receive ACTION,
  • Participate in Chapters,
  • Receive a discounted rate for the annual conference,
  • Receive all SEA sponsor discounts, and
  • Participate in SEA webinars, seminars, and other events
