Is coaching the same as personal counseling?
No. Personal counseling (or traditional therapy) focuses on a person’s past and deals with healing emotional pain. Coaching focuses on the present in order to assist the individual in envisioning a desired future and creating actionable strategies for achieving specific goals in one’s work environment and personal life. Coaching is not to be construed as, or a replacement for, counseling, psychotherapy, legal counsel, or medical advice. In an executive coaching engagement, the manager is solely responsible for creating his or her own decisions and results.
