Join Senior Executives Association (SEA) and Young Government Leaders (YGL) as we learn more about coaching from Belva Martin, a certified executive and leadership coach. Learn what it is, when and why you should obtain coaching, differences between coaching and mentoring, and gain experience through peer-to-peer coaching.
Ms Martin retired as a senior executive in 2014 after a 36-year career in the federal government. She managed a diverse staff and a portfolio that included reviews of various human resource issues, including diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, recruitment, and talent management. She is most proud of her efforts to mentor and coach peers and junior staff. Ms Martin completed coaching certification training in December 2014 after which she completed over 100 hours of coaching toward her certification as an Associate Certified Coach (ACC). She received her certification in August 2016 from the International Coaching Federation (ICF). As an independent consultant, her clients included the Brookings Institute, where she coached over 75 federal executive and management professionals. In June 2018, Ms Martin facilitated a discussion for career professionals at the American Society for Public Administration on “Building Strategies for Resilience.”
