About the conference

This conference provides a venue to share learning and talent-related challenges and experiences with counterparts across different sectors of government and industry. The conference also provides the opportunity to explore research and trends with a broader public service audience.

Session topics in the program include:

  • Beyond jobs—the future of work: Technology is disrupting the workforce, and organizations with the right learning approach can use this disruption to unleash workforce transformation. Participants will learn how to imagine the future work of their organizations, reskill the workforce to unlock future outcomes, and activate talent through a culture of lifelong learning.
  • Beyond ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation)—the future of learning work: External forces are pressuring organizations to change the way they approach the learning experience for their employees. In this interactive lab session, participants will design four jobs of the future for learning professionals that go beyond the traditional ADDIE model.
  • Beyond learning—future of the learning leader: Proliferating technology, evolving demographics, the changing nature of careers, and the convergence of learning and work have dramatically changed, so that learning is no longer the sole responsibility of learning and development (L&D), but the responsibility of the organization as a whole. Learning leaders, often referred to as CLOs, are on tap to facilitate that shift in order for their organizations to evolve. In this webinar, we will discuss the key findings of our recent qualitative research with learning leaders. We will discuss:
    • How the work, influence, priorities, and self-perception of CLOs are shifting
    • How CLOs feel about those changes
    • Key capabilities learning leaders need for the future
  • Beyond learning—the future of your organization: Bringing an organization into the future requires thinking beyond traditional learning techniques or roles. Participants will choose two sessions to delve into methods for equipping their organizations with tools for the future.
    • Inclusive leadership: Diversity of markets, customers, ideas, and talent is driving the need for inclusion as a new leadership capability. Learn the attributes today’s leaders possess to not only embrace individual differences, but to potentially leverage them for competitive advantage.
    • Reskilling the workforce: As technology evolves more rapidly and organizations increase in automation maturity, workers will need to be reskilled and redeployed to perform meaningful, enriching, and intrinsically human work in support of the organization’s mission and vision. The ‘Future of work: Reskilling the workforce of tomorrow’ session will examine how the future of work will impact higher education, state, and local governments, the type of skills required to succeed in the digital era, and the need to develop a generational approach to learning through scalable learning methodologies.
    • Learning in the flow of life (Microlearning): Integrating learning into the flow of work and life, and empowering people to actively develop throughout their lives, are significant challenges that will require leaders to dramatically rethink their approaches to learning, reskilling, and capability development. Explore how to do this using microlearning as an example.
    • Workforce analytics: Successful organizations use internal and external workforce data to predict future talent trends, manage expectations for employee behavior and workplace needs, and make fact-based workforce-related decisions to meet critical business challenges. Examine how organizations have built and used analytics to maintain a high-performing workforce.
