Message from Your SEA President
By Jason Briefel, SEA Interim President
It’s election season in America, as well as here at SEA for the Association’s Board of Directors.
Luckily for SEA members, we don’t mandate campaigning for years on end, nor spending countless hours fundraising. We know you’re too busy leading your organizations and preparing for a smooth and successful presidential transition.
Speaking of presidential transition, I hope that SEA’s webinar series and Handbook on Presidential Transition for Federal Career Executives, are proving useful for you and your colleagues. We welcome feedback on these resources, as we are updating them as new information is released. We just issued version 2.0 of the Handbook with a new section on personnel rules applicable to the SES during and immediately following the transition.
SEA’s Professional Development League is also available to brief your agency’s career SES corps on the transition process and best practices that we’ve compiled from Distinguished Executives. We recently delivered a 2-hour executive seminar to nearly 250 agency executives and senior career leaders at the Social Security Administration (SSA) and would welcome an opportunity to bring this session to your agency. Send me an email (email@example.com) if your agency may be interested in having SEA PDL deliver such a seminar.
Getting back to SEA’s elections, on September 10 ballots will be emailed/mailed to all SEA members in good standing, providing you an opportunity to select five new Directors for the Association’s Board. Votes are accepted through mid-October.
SEA’s Board of Directors has fifteen seats, with Directors serving three year terms. We saw enormous interest in serving on the Board this year, with 25 individuals expressing initial interest in running for election to the Board. Not all of those individuals decided to run for the Board, but many did, and SEA’s Nominating Committee has developed an outstanding slate of candidates from across government for members to choose from. The Board and I are eager to see the election results in October and to welcome new Board members in November.
Please exercise your civic (and Association member) duty by voting this fall – both in SEA’s Board elections and the upcoming national election.
Yours in Service,
